Housing and Community Development Network Applauds Decision to Allow More Sandy Appeals
Says survivors shouldn't be victimized by recovery

Following the announcement that the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has reopened the appeals period for applicants initially deemed ineligible for either the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation, and Mitigation (RREM) program or Homeowner Resettlement grant, Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey President and CEO Staci Berger issued the following statement:

"It's good to see the Christie administration allowing the thousands of people who were unfairly denied Sandy recovery money a second chance to appeal. However, for many of these families, being placed on the waiting list will just continue the endless limbo they have been in since the storm hit. Questions about how DCA used the FEMA data and how funding decisions were made remain.  

"A full investigation of how the administration is making decisions about who gets Sandy help is needed so the same mistakes do not continue. Sandy survivors shouldn't be victimized by the recovery."
