Statewide Community Development Association Statement on State of the State Address

1/15/2019

Following Governor Phil Murphy’s State of the State address, Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey’s (the Network) President and Chief Executive Officer Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“We’re pleased Governor Murphy continues to move our state forward. We applaud the efforts to keep children safe from lead poisoning in all forms.

We urge the governor and legislative leaders to support policies and investments that build healthy, affordable communities like expanding the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program (NRTC). In contrast to the EDA tax incentive program recently audited, NRTC has rigorous oversight and is a proven success, leveraging $5-$7 for every dollar invested. This economic impact warrants expanding the program to $30 million, a drop in the bucket compared to the $11 billion wasted under the previous administration. We can build thriving neighborhoods and communities, so everyone can afford to call NJ home.”
