Mercer Fair Housing Decision Sets Tone for NJ, says Network
County Court rules towns must create affordable homes

3/8/2018

In wake of today’s ruling by the Mercer County Assignment Judge Mary C. Jacobson regarding fair housing obligations, the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey’s President and Chief Executive Officer Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“Over 190 towns have taken the initiative to create opportunities for affordable homes in their communities without waiting for legal intervention. They’re tuned into the reality facing hard working families, seniors, and residents living with special needs. According to a national report from Prosperity Now, New Jersey received an F and ranked 50th for affordability.

“The lack of homes people can afford in communities around our state is holding back New Jersey’s economy. New Jersey needs more homes people can afford. We’re hopeful this decision motivates more towns to do the right thing and create more affordable home opportunities for all residents.”
