NJ Rental Market – Out of Reach?
New report to detail rental affordability across NJ

WHAT: The Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) will release the 2017 Out of Reach results, the annual national study by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) on rental home affordability. More than a third of NJ residents are renters, and Out of Reach offers an in-depth look at housing costs by affordability data for every state, metropolitan area, and county in the country. NJ has ranked in the top five of least affordable states in the nation over the last decade. Community developers, local residents, and public officials will announce how NJ’s rental market has evolved over the last year and make recommendations to address the state’s affordable housing shortage.

WHO: On hand to discuss the report’s findings and their implications for New Jerseyans during the event will be:

  • Staci Berger, president and chief executive officer, the Network
  • Arnold Cohen, senior policy coordinator, the Network
  • John Restrepo, director of housing and community development, Garden State Episcopal Community Development Corporation
  • A local resident will share a personal story about their experience with locating an affordable home.
  • Elected officials representing the City of Jersey City.
  • Access to report data and interviews with local contacts will be available, by request, to speak with members of the media after the report’s release.

WHERE: A Garden State Episcopal Community Development Corporation rental property located at 7 Jewett Avenue in Jersey City.

WHEN: Thursday, June 8.
