Statewide Housing Association Lauds Rental Assistance Expansion
Christie Administration adds 500 vouchers in homeless prevention effort

3/30/16

Today Governor Chris Christie announced that the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will issue 500 State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) vouchers through a new statewide Housing First program. On the announcement, Network Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Sharon Barker issued the following statement:

“Today’s announcement from the governor is welcome news. In order to afford a modest two-bedroom home in the Garden State, a family needs to earn an hourly wage of $25.17, that’s far more than the state’s average hourly wage of $16.92.

“Too many families are struggling to make ends meet in this state. We applaud the governor for expanding the resources available to help ease the burden more of our hard working families, seniors, and residents living with special needs. The expansion of the State Rental Assistance Program is a positive step in the right direction.”
